We each have our own unique body chemistry and when the perfume interacts with our skin a unique fragrance is created. Both diet and hydration of the skin can also have an effect on the scent.
Warmth activates perfume. It should therefore ideally be worn on the pulse points. However perfume can be worn anywhere, for instance in the hair, on clothes or on the nape of the neck.
All Clive Christian perfumes are 20% perfume concentration or above, meaning they are all classified as pure perfume. If applied correctly, pure perfume should last for at least 8 hours. If your skin is hydrated it can last longer, +12 hours. Perfume will also last longer when sprayed on clothing in particular cotton.
To achieve the character and optimal quality of each perfumes, we use the highest percentage of perfume oil required. Wherever possible we use the absolute – the highest concentration possible of a perfume. Our perfumes range from 20% to 100% perfume concentration.
Our ingredients are sourced from around the world and we choose only ingredients of the very highest quality and purity.
Store your perfumes in a cool, dark place away from humidity and direct sunlight with the cap on. Some of our perfumes are presented in a case, which is perfect for storing your fragrance. Some clients suggest keeping the perfumes in the refrigerator during Summer to keep them fresh.
Alcohol is used as a carrier for the different ingredients in the perfume (most ingredients are oils and won’t mix with water). Without alcohol, these oils are also more likely to evaporate from the skin quickly.
The Absolutes contain very small quantities of alcohol which are used to ensure the fragrance ingredients can work well with each other. The alcohol is not used as a carrier for the perfume as is the case in an Eau de Parfum.
We do not test our products on animals.
The only animal derivatives we use are Beeswax Absolute and Hyraceum Absolute (fossilised particles from the Rock Hyrax). All musks, ambergris, civet and castoreum that we use are synthetic equivalents, recreating the perfume without the use of animal-derived materials.
Clive Christian works with a curated selection of master perfumers to create our perfumes. Clive Christian’s perfumers are guided by Clive Christian’s uncompromising passion to craft the extraordinary.
The company does not hold a Royal Warrant. However, the Crown Perfumery is the only company in history to be granted the right to use Queen Victoria’s crown as a symbol of British quality and excellence. The crown is a timeless honour in perpetuity whereas a Royal Warrant lasts only as long as the monarch lives.
Clive Christian is the founder and now Creative Director for a group of companies trading internationally in luxury fragrance and interiors under the brand name “CLIVE CHRISTIAN “. Having revived luxury interiors in the 1970s, Clive Christian’s endless pursuit for true luxury was given another avenue for exploration when he happened upon a small perfume house in Mayfair, London. Intrigued by this company that had once been so notable that Queen Victoria had granted the use of the image of her crown on the bottles, Clive Christian set to work to restore the perfume house to its former glory, which led to the creation of the niche perfume sector. In 2012, Clive Christian was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the luxury goods industry.
The coat of arms was awarded to the company as a reflection of continued British excellence and heritage, granted to Clive Christian by The College of Arms in accordance with the Royal Victorian Order.
We use only the highest quality of ingredients available, which are high in cost owing to their rarity and as a result of the extraction process required to create the oil. For example, to produce Jasmine Sambac, which is used in “X” for Men, an acre of land is required to produce 500lbs of blossom, which yields much less than 1lb of the absolute. We also use the highest perfume concentration in all of our perfumes.
